Celebrity Masterchef is set to see Phil Daniels, Baga Chipz, Sam Quek, Karen Gibson and Dominic Littlewood battle it out.

If you’re not too distracted by their culinary skills (and a few disasters along the way), you might notice that actor Phil looks a little familiar.

That’s for good reason, as he’s made tons of appearances in TV shows, from Call The Midwife and Misfits to EastEnders.

Recent appearances

Phil’s most recently released show was this year’s The Mallorca Files, which he appeared in as Frank, in two episodes in season two. Elsewhere this year, he played George Benson in series nine of Call the Midwife.

In 2017, he led the cast of The Hatton Garden Job, a dramatisation of the famous heist, alongside Larry Lamb. Phil starred as Danny Jones, with Larry taking on the role of Brian Reader.

The 61-year-old has also appeared in the likes of 2019 comedy Sliced, ITV series Endeavour, and mini-series Moonfleet back in 2013.

Back in the day

Phil is well known for his stint on EastEnders as Kevin Wicks, the nephew of Pat Butcher (Pam St. Clement), and was introduced alongside his children Carly (Kellie Shirley) and Deano (Matt Di Angelo).

Phil starred on the show from 2006 to 2007, when Kevin was killed off in a car crash.

As well as EastEnders, the actor has appeared on the likes of Poirot, Misfits, Midsomer Murders, and in 2004 comedy drama Outlaws as Bruce Dunbar.

Career beginnings

Phil’s career began back in 1972, with the actor going on to make his mark on shows including 1985’s The Pickwick Papers, Sunnyside Farm in 1997, and Holding On the same year.

Of course, he’s well known for his appearance as Jimmy in Quadrophenia, as well as starring as Larry in Sex, Chips & Rock ‘n Roll, and voicing the character of Fetcher in Chicken Run.

Safe to say Phil’s had a pretty varied career, but can his cooking skills live up to it and impress Gregg Wallace and John Torode?

Only time will tell.

Celebrity Masterchef airs Wednesdays at 9pm on BBC One.
