Chelsea are leading the race for Spanish full-back Sergio Reguilon with Serie A side Napoli also interested, according to reports.

The Blues have spent heavily in the attacking areas so far this window.

Deals for Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech were completed, while Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz remains a top priority.

Tension between Frank Lampard and Roman Abramovich could be rising over their failed efforts to land the German thus far, but Chelsea remain steadfast in their pursuit.

Elsewhere, rumours of defensive additions have also circulated.

With a Premier League defence that conceded the most goals (54) in the top half last season, Chelsea’s defence could be set for strengthening.

Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell has emerged as one target, though his £80m valuation could prove a difficult hurdle to overcome.

But with current left-backs Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso both up for sale, an addition is expected one way or another.

Now, according to SportWitness (who cite Spanish publication AS), Chelsea have made strides in Chilwell alternative Reguilon.

The Spaniard, 23, is currently on loan at Sevilla, and impressed English audiences with his Europa League performances versus Wolves and Man Utd.

Parent club Real Madrid reportedly see him as surplus to requirements, with the ‘doors closed’ on a return to The Bernabeu.

Chelsea are described as being ‘in the lead’ in the race to sign Reguilon who has also attracted interest from Napoli.

A fee of €25m (£22.5m) is cited as being required to seal the deal, and should Reguilon be allowed to depart, Madrid will reportedly include a buy-back clause within his contract.
