Fans of Michael Keaton’s character Adrian Toomes–the villain from Spider-Man: Homecoming–will be pleasantly surprised with the final trailer for Sony’s upcoming movie Morbius, as this trailer features the most Keaton yet, which is like 10% more than we’ve previously seen. Morbius is hitting theaters on April 1 after a long series of delays because of the pandemic.
In previous trailers, Keaton had a brief appearance to whet the appetites of audiences surprised to see the MCU character in Sony’s Spider-Man Villain Universe–which doesn’t include Spider-Man. You can see the final trailer for the movie below, which also includes a lot more of Matt Smith, who will play Loxias Crown.
“Michael Morbius,” Toomes says, as he’s handcuffed, surrounded by the police. “You’ve been given a gift. Time to let go of what you used to be, and discover who you’re meant to be.”
It’s pretty obvious, from the sound, that each sentence comes from a different scene. Yes, this is all very confusing, pre-release, as Toomes is part of the MCU, but Sony’s universe of spider-characters is not part of that. Although, Eddie Brock did jump to the MCU at the end of Venom 2 then presumably back to his own universe at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Again, it’s all very weird and confusing.
Morbius was originally going to be released in July 2020, but it was then pushed to March 2021 because of the ongoing pandemic. It was pushed again until October 8, 2021, then again until January 21, 2022. However, in early January of this year, Morbius got another release date of April 1, 2022–most likely because of the Omicron variant in December and January. So hopefully, we’ll all be able to see the next Sony/Marvel movie then, nearly two years after it was originally meant to be released.
Jared Leto stars in Morbius as the titular character–a doctor trying to cure his disease who becomes a living vampire after an experiment goes wrong. The film also stars Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Morbius is directed by Daniel Espinosa, whose last film was the 2017 horror flick Life.
As for Michael Keaton, you’ll be able to see him reprise his role as Batman in The Flash, which hits theaters on November 4. Additionally, Keaton’s Batman will also appear in the HBO Max original movie Batgirl, which will arrive on the streaming service sometime this year.
