The former “Pretty Little Liar” joins the world of beauty vlogging

The gals of Pretty Little Liars are no longer regularly gracing TV (and laptop) screens with their schemes and sordid affairs, but you can still see them in their other projects. And for Shay Mitchell, who played Emily on the series, she’s trying her hand at a totally new pursuit: Beauty vlogging.

Or as she puts it on Instagram, “I came, I saw, I contoured! FIRST EVER MAKEUP TUTORIAL by me, myself and I. Please note this is a learning process sooo be nice. ? p.s I only managed to poke my eye twice so all in all it was a win!”

Shay starts off the video with jokes, lightly poking fun at the trend of people holding products up to their hands. (She tries it with her forearms and, well, that’s why folks use their hands.) But then she gets serious, sharing, I get asked all the time, how do you do your makeup? What are different products that you like? What are products that you use all the time, that you can’t live without?”

“I get all these beauty questions … I’m not a professional makeup artist, a professional beauty blogger, but I had a curiosity about it and I feel like I could do it too, so I am, and that’s kinda how I live my life.”

The video’s description mirrors her statement:

“Hey guys, sooo obviously I’m no makeup expert, but I love beauty and taking care of my skin. There’s so much I want to learn about the beauty world, and my glam squad inspires me every single day with their creativity and hard work — so what better time than now to start making beauty videos! Thanks for tuning into the first one, please come back because there will be many more to come!!”

And while Shay’s makeup artist Patrick Ta is certainly with her in the video’s spirit, she’s informal and chatty throughout, dabbing products on in a way that’s #relatable. Less relatable — she uses 24 products for her “Everyday Makeup” look. But the results speak for themselves.
