Justified Team Reunite Raylan Returns

One of FX’s most critically acclaimed series, “Justified,” may be getting something of a follow-up. That series starred Timothy Olyphant as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens and used the Elmore Leonard short story “Fire in the Hole” to setup its premise.

Now basically the entire producing team behind the show are reuniting to develop another FX series based on another Elmore Leonard work, this time his novel “City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit”. It’s also a series that could see Timothy Olyphant potentially return to the Raylan Givens role as the character has appeared in multiple Leonard novels (though not in this one).

Variety broke the news, and says the project is still in the very early stages and nothing is set in stone as of yet – meaning it’s not clear if Olyphant could star in the series or appear in a smaller role. Either way no deal has yet been made.

The novel “City Primeval” follows a killer named Clement Mansell, known as the ‘Oklahoma Wildman,’ and dedicated Detroit homicide detective Raymond Cruz who vows to take him down.

At least eight producers from “Justified” return, including creator Graham Yost who will serve as executive producer along with writers and executive producers Michael Dinner and Dave Andron who are onboard to co-write, executive produce, and serve as co-showrunners.

Dinner will also direct while Chris Provenzano, Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly will also all return as executive producers. Sony Pictures Television, who served as the studio on “Justified,” will do so again here.

Olyphant is coming off another lawman character he returned to, reprising his role of Seth Bullock in the “Deadwood” telemovie. More recently he drew strong notices for is work in the second season premiere of “The Mandalorian” as a desert town’s marshall.

“Justified” ran for six seasons from 2010-2015, snagging two Emmy wins and multiple nominations along with drawing rave reviews throughout. It is available to stream in full on Hulu.
