Michelle Pfeiffer is set to play Betty Ford alongside Viola Davis as Michelle Obama in Showtime’s anthology series “The First Lady”.
Ford was the first lady from 1974-77 during Gerald Ford’s presidency and among the more outspoken and politically active first ladies in history along with co-founding the addiction treatment center that bears her name.
Pfeiffer’s casting fills two of the key three roles in the series which will look at the women who made impactful and sometimes world-changing decisions during their time in the White House. The third role, that of Eleanor Roosevelt, has yet to be announced.
In addition, Emmy winner Susanne Bier (“The Night Manager,” “The Undoing”) has just signed on to direct and executive produce every episode of the series which is being made by Showtime and Lionsgate.
Aaron Cooley created the series and is writing several episodes. Cooley, Davis Cathy Schulman, Julius Tennon, Andrew Wang, Jeff Gaspin and Brad Kaplan all executive produce.
