No Way Home Is A Spidey Ending

Marvel Studios’ “Spider-Man: No Way Home” marks the third solo Spider-Man movie for star Tom Holland and from the sounds of it could be his last.

As we know, Sony owns the rights and distributes the new live-action films and they struck a deal with Marvel Studios to produce the new films and integrate them in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That deal ends with both ‘No Way Home’ and one more non-“Spider-Man” MCU film not yet revealed. After that, Holland’s contractual obligation to play Peter Parker is done.

Speaking to EW for a new feature piece, Holland says the filmmakers are treating the film as a conclusion to this part of the franchise:

“We were all treating [‘No Way Home’] as the end of a franchise, let’s say. I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you’d be seeing a very different version. It would no longer be the ‘Homecoming’ trilogy.

We would give it some time and try to build something different and tonally change the films. Whether that happens or not, I don’t know. But we were definitely treating [‘No Way Home’] like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it.”

What will happen with the character is unclear. There’s no question Sony would clearly love Holland’s Peter Parker to play with Tom Hardy’s Venom, but whether it can happen is another question and seems unlikely despite the (decidedly one-way) recent credits stinger tease.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” debuts in cinemas on December 17th.
