The non-profit Partnership for Food Safety Education is looking for applicants for two different fellowships — the Evaluation Fellowship and the Food and Tech Council Fellowship. The application deadline is Feb. 28.

The non-profit Partnership for Food Safety Education (PFSE) is the creator and steward of Fight BAC!®, a consumer education program that empowers households to handle food safely in the home. This work is done as a public-private collaboration with the food industry, consumer groups, scientific associations, and the federal agencies FDA, CDC, and USDA.

The Evaluation Fellowship will support PFSE’s program evaluation efforts as well as execute a needs-based survey of the community PFSE serves.

The Food and Tech Council Fellowship will support the creation and execution of the Food & Tech Advisory Council.

The Partnership is seeking U.S.-based, remote, graduates or post-graduates for these six-month fellowships. For more information or to apply for the $22,400 fellowships, click here.

Candidates must be willing to accommodate an Eastern time zone. Candidates must provide their own computer, PFSE will provide access to materials and resources needed to complete the work. The fellowships will be from April 1 to Sept. 30, 2022, and a flexible work schedule will be determined. The fellows are expected to be present at key convening activities of the project, and these dates will be made known in advance.

Evaluation Fellowship
This position will execute a needs-based assessment of the health and food safety educators PFSE serves, process and evaluate the data, resulting in a plan of action for PFSE. Additionally, this fellow will design program evaluation procedures and a plan of action for PFSE staff. Other activities such as evaluating other key PFSE data to better understand the impact of consumer food safety education efforts and assisting with stakeholder segmentation will be within this fellow’s scope of work. This work will complement and inform other PFSE planning activities such as the Food & Tech Advisory Council, Communications Working Group, and a Conference Program Committee.

The Food and Tech Council Fellowship
The Food and Tech Advisory Council fellow will assist PFSE in developing an action plan for the future of food safety education, so PFSE and its networks of partners and educators can be ready to support households with timely, relevant food handling and hand hygiene guidance. The public-private Food and Tech Advisory Council will anticipate, examine, and map the future needs of U.S. households when it comes to food handling behaviors and technological tools in the home. The Food and Tech Advisory Council will meet a minimum of two times, including one in-person meeting in the Washington D.C. metro area in 2022, depending on the COVID-19 situation.

The Council will address questions such as:

  • What will be the role of smart technologies in how Americans source their food in 3 to 5 years?
  • What in-home technologies can be leveraged to raise awareness of the importance of food safety to healthy eating?
  • How can PFSE powerfully strengthen a public-private network of organizations and individuals with common goals for behavior changes that will have the potential to markedly reduce sporadic foodborne illness?
