R I P Vader Actor David Prowse Actor

British bodybuilder turned actor David Prowse, the man who wore the iconic Darth Vader suit in the original “Star Wars” trilogy, has died aged 85.

The actor originally recorded Vader’s voice, but was replaced by James Earl Jones because of Prowse’s West Country accent. Prowse’s physical performance remains.

Bowington Management tweeted: “It’s with great regret and heart-wrenching sadness for us and million of fans around the world, to announce that our client DAVE PROWSE M.B.E. has passed away at the age of 85.”

Prowse had roles outside the “Star Wars” franchise, most notably in Stanley Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange” and Terry Gilliam’s “Jabberwocky” along with movies like “Up Pompeii ” and “Black Snake” as well as appearances in shows ranging from “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” to “The Tomorrow People,” “Ace of Wands,” “The Saint” and “Doctor Who”.
