RCMP on Prince Edward Island say a police helicopter has found a body on Lennox Island.

A Friday afternoon news release said the crew of an RCMP helicopter located human remains in a heavily wooded area of the the First Nation just off P.E.I.’s North Shore at 12:45 p.m. AT.

Officers were in the area continuing to search for Jamie Sark, 28, who was reported missing from the area on Aug. 25.

A family member told CBC News that the remains have not yet been identified, however.

Sark was last seen leaving a residence on Lennox Island’s Sumac Trail shortly after midnight on Aug. 22.

An initial ground search for Sark wrapped up on Aug. 27, after which an RCMP helicopter surveyed the area at least twice. Members of the First Nation also continued to search the island.

Last month, the RCMP expanded its search for Sark to Nova Scotia.

Sark’s family had been offering a $5,000 reward for any information on his whereabouts.

Friday’s news release said members of the Prince District RCMP and the force’s Major Crime Unit are helping the RCMP helicopter crew with the recovery of the body.

An autopsy will be scheduled to help positively identify the body and determine the exact cause of death.

The investigation continues.
