BBC pundit Alan Shearer believes Thomas Tuchel needs to sign a ‘top centre forward’ at Chelsea to win the Premier League title.

Tuchel is currently deciding on his best Blues team after taking over from Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge.

He’s used Timo Werner, Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham up front during his three games in charge.

But Shearer thinks a new, top level player is needed to boost their attacking threat.

Speaking about Tuchel on Match of the Day (via Metro), Shearer said: “He’s given everyone an opportunity. He didn’t play [Mason] Mount in the first game and he’s swapped it over with [Ben] Chilwell and [Marcos] Alonso.

“Giroud has been in there, he’s changed the system slightly. He’s given everyone the opportunity to impress him.

“I still think they are lacking that top-quality centre-forward to challenge [for the title]. They’ll challenge for fourth but I think to go to the next level they’ll need a top centre forward.”

Chelsea have been linked with Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi in the past.

They were also thought to be targeting Lyon’s Moussa Dembele, although the Frenchman has now secured a loan move to Atletico Madrid.

Tuchel didn’t really have time to sign anyone in the January transfer window. He will likely target some big names in the summer.

In the mean time, Tuchel will aim to get the best out of his compatriot Werner.

The German forward has gone on a barren run with Chelsea. He’s failed to score in his last 14 Premier League games.

Chelsea fans will be encouraged by the player’s recent performance, however.

In the 2-1 victory over Sheff Utd yesterday, Werner looked sharp and dangerous in front of goal.

He bagged an assist, setting up midfielder Mason Mount to open the scoring.

Tuchel will be hoping that can get Werner’s confidence up and running again.

Chelsea’s next match is against Barnsley in the FA Cup fifth round on Thursday.
