Pundit Tim Sherwood believes defender Thiago Silva is Frank Lampard’s best signing for Chelsea.
The Blues spent over £200 million during the summer to sign the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell.
Chilwell has been a success at left back, while both Werner and Havertz have struggled at times.

Silva has become an integral player in defence alongside Kurt Zouma. He’s captained the side on numerous occasions and has now recovered from a rocky start in the Premier League.
Speaking about Silva’s performances this campaign, Sherwood said: “One thing is for sure, they’ve signed someone in Thiago Silva who is his best signing, without a doubt. Not only is he a great player with experience and strolls through games, he also makes Kurt Zouma next to him better.”
Sherwood also provided his opinion on other star performers for Chelsea, saying: “I think Ben Chilwell and Reece James in the full-back areas are fantastic. N’Golo Kante’s playing in his correct position now.”
Chelsea’s main aim during the summer transfer window was to revitalise their attack. Werner and Havertz look like great options for the future.
But it looks like Silva has stolen the show by providing Chelsea with plenty of reliability at the back.
They’ve conceded 14 goals in their first 14 league matches, which is a marked improvement on last season.
Silva has even chipped in on the goal front, scoring two Prem goals in his ten appearances.
Lampard will likely reap the rewards of signing Silva for years to come. While he might retire in the next few years, his impact on teammate Zouma could make the Frenchman a top defender.
The Blues are currently preparing for their busy Christmas schedule, of which Silva will be an important part.
Their first match is a big clash against Arsenal on Boxing Day, which could define Mikel Arteta’s future.
