Hit TV shows are expected to get multiple seasons, and creators plan ahead for things like that. With Marvel Studios, however, they are doing things a bit differently.
Speaking at the TCA winter press tour from the set of Ms. Marvel, Marvel Studios COO Kevin Feige confirmed that while the story will dictate the direction of the shows’ respective futures, continuing with multiple seasons is not out of the question.
“We’ve already said that [Elizabeth] Olsen will go from WandaVision to the new Doctor Strange film. The fun of the MCU is obviously all the crossover we can do between the series’ and the films. It will always be very based on the story, sometimes they’ll go into a season two, sometimes they will go into a feature and then back into a series as is the case with Ms. Marvel after he debut on Disney+, she’ll be in the second Captain Marvel film.”
Feige then continued with a tease that they are planning second seasons that are “yet to be announced.” He then added that he cannot say for sure whether WandaVision, specifically, will be given a second season, but elaborated that “some of the shows that we are about to start filming, we are keeping in mind a structure that would lead into a Season 2 and a Season 3 in a more direct way than a show like WandaVision clearly goes into a feature.”
It’s unclear exactly which of the upcoming shows are being looked at for the multiple season treatment. As Feige explained, it has already been confirmed that WandaVision will dovetail into the upcoming Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, but shows like Loki and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier have yet to be confirmed in their relationships to any future MCU projects.
WandaVision is nearing its finale with two more episodes debuting on February 26 and March 6 and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier premieres on the streaming service on March 19.
