As I’ve mentioned before, when the cold weather starts making itself known, so do my chapped lips. Nine times out of 10, chapped lips are an unavoidable side effect of the colder seasons. I wouldn’t exactly call my lips needy, but I usually have to pull out all the stops in order to keep them hydrated—which is why I use lip treatments in all their many glorious forms. From squeezy tubes to balms, I’m always ready to apply something globby the second my lip skin starts to feel scratchy or scabby—but I recently got turned on to the high-speed healing powers of the Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask, which has really helped my lips get their act together.

Unlike with other masks I’ve used before that feel filmy and sit heavily on top of my lips, I can actually see and feel the difference in how supple my lips are after I use this one. Although it’s technically a mask, I’m a big fan of using it throughout the day to suit the hydration needs of my lips, and it’s great to use as a preemptive treatment before bed to take the edge off of morning crust. I love that its bouncy jelly texture doesn’t feel sticky on my fingers or mouth and it has a super-mild fragrance that I can barely smell. The mask takes the texture of my lips from thirsty to silky in under 30 seconds without me having to do much of anything.

The formula quickly sinks into my lips once it’s applied. I really only rub my lips together to enjoy how newly smooth they feel—like butter, baby. While the mask comes with a tiny spatula to scoop out the product, I opt to dab my ring or middle finger (with clean hands, of course) directly into the pot and tap the product on my lips.

The Tatcha lip mask also leaves my lips with a moist, dewy look that doesn’t come off as overly shiny or noticeable, which is why it’s ideal to wear alone or as a primer under lipstick. The treatment features ingredients like squalane and camellia oil for optimal hydration and doesn’t taste like artificial flavoring when I lick my lips. For a person with perpetually dry lips, finding this small but mighty lip mask is like striking skin-care gold, especially since all I need are just a few dabs of product to coat my lips in long-lasting softness.
