Wainscoting is a great way of texturizing and bringing character to any room. To those who are not very familiar with the house construction language, wainscoting is what you call the wooded panels attached to the lower third of the walls. It is a type of wall treatment where wood boards, plastic panels, and hard wood strips are installed through the use of nails or glue. The panel which you attach is called wainscot. The use of it became popular during the early 1900’s to hide the rising damp of the interior walls of houses. wainscot vary in sizes. Some are merely three feet to cover the small of the wall, or just to add texture to the room walls. Others reach as high as eight feet. The coating top of wainscot is capped by molding so as to prevent any damages and scratches from various furniture. Even though the popularity of wainscot waned during the late 50s, it’s been garnering interest once more because of its various uses.

Wainscot could instantly add sophistication and classiness to any room. Because it was used commonly as wall panels for old homes, there is a certain vintage touch to it that adds magic to rooms. Plus, wainscot can project the image of a room being lived upon and busy. The higher the panels are, the more lively the room looks like. There is a certain flavor and appeal that wainscot add to walls. The mash of the vintage vibe and the lively feel makes it a classic option in room designs. Not only that, these panels are good in covering up scratches, holes, and cracks on the lower part of the walls where everything has the potential to damage the walls. Children’s rooms are most especially very prone to these damages because of the hyperactivity of kids. Thus, it is a great thing how even wainscot could be personalized and made more secure and child-friendly with cushion pads. Wainscoting is relatively easy, even for beginners in house building and repair. You can easily buy sheets of 4 feet by 8 feet panels in tool stores. You can choose from wainscot with beadboard texture which, when lined together by the walls, will make the seams seem invisible. If you want to give the room some kind of nature feeling, you can choose to install a solid pine wainscot. The first options are far more expensive of course because of the material from which they are made. Plywood wainscot are cheaper, and you even have the option to have them painted afterwards. The effort in wainscoting comes in the installation of some of these panels, though. Some have to be cut according to your desired size. Extensive lengths to cover may also be hard if you’re installing them individually. Plus, one must buy extra moldings for the top. Of course, some other expenses are not directly connected to wainscot installing, but a good panel wall will even look better with tiles and wallpaper.

Wainscoting is a great way of jazzing up your walls. It may be quite costly, but the transformation is really awe-inspiring!
