FOX is developing a one-hour music anthology series titled “Icon” which would focus on the true stories of the music legends we think we know. No writer is currently attached to the project.
The potential first season is set to focus on country music’s only mother-daughter duo, Naomi and Wynonna Judd who dominated the genre in the 1980s and 1990s. The Judds will executive produce along with Gail Berman and Hend Baghdady. [Source: Variety]
Meet the Women
Universal Television and Buzzfeed have signed a first-look deal, which will see the NBCU studio produce scripted content based on stories and reporting published by Buzzfeed. Their first project will be executive produced by “Good Girls” creator Jenna Bans and written by Erika Green (“New Amsterdam”), while Richard Alan Reid will serve as executive producer.
Based on Bim Adewunmi’s 2018 article “Meet the Women Who Are Building a Better Romance Industry,” the series follows Black women trying to change the romance industry from the inside by challenging the old, predominantly white narratives of who gets to fall in love. [Source: Variety]
Wanderers
Lionsgate and QC Entertainment have set Glen Mazzara (“The Walking Dead,” “The Shield”) as showrunner on their event series adaptation of the Chuck Wendig dystopian sci-fi novel “Wanderers”. Ilene Staple, Sean McKittrick, Raymond Mansfield and Edward H. Hamm, Jr. executive produce.
The story follows a decadent rock star, a deeply religious radio host, a disgraced scientist, and a teenage girl named Shana who embark on a mysterious journey across America where the apocalyptic epidemic proves less dangerous than the fear of it. [Source: Deadline]
Heels
Starz’ wrestling drama” Heels,” led by former “Arrow” actor Stephen Amell, has cast Mary McCormack in a leading role in the eight-episode drama from Lionsgate Television and Paramount Television Studios. Peter Segal has been tapped to direct and executive produce the series.
Amell and Alexander Ludwig play brothers Jack and Ace Spade in a close-knit Georgia community. They are key figures in a family-owned wrestling league and war over their late father’s legacy. McCormack will play Willie, the business partner of Jack Spade (Amell) and logistical brains behind the local wrestling organization. [Source: Variety]
