Oscar-nominated Danish director Thomas Vinterberg (“Another Round,” “The Hunt”) will make his TV series debut with “Families Like Ours” for Zentropa.
The thought-provoking drama, commissioned by Danish broadcaster TV2, is a six-part family saga unfolding across summertime Denmark.
A flood slowly starts taking over the country causing it to be gradually evacuated and people must bid farewell to what they love, what they know, and to who they are. In a flash, all property is worthless, all fortunes changed, and luck favors only a few.
In the coming years, Danes disperse in all directions: only houses, schools, and empty streets are left. Those who can afford it travel to good countries, the less well-off have to use a government-funded program to move to more challenging places.
Vinterberg will helm the entire run and co-write the script with Bo Hr. Hansen (“The Biggest Heroes”). Shooting will kick off in late 2021 or early 2022 with the cast announced at a later stage.
