Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings” Gets Naughty?

Amazon’s big budget “The Lord of the Rings” series will show us parts of Middle Earth we’ve yet to see on screen – including potential nudity and sex scenes according to a new report.

Famed fansite TheOneRing.net has received a casting call from the BGT talent agency for the series, a casting call that reads: “Comfortable with Nudity? Up to $500 per day. Use reference NUDE. We need Nude people based in Auckland – age 18 plus, all shapes and sizes (Intimacy guidelines will always be followed on set).”

The production reportedly also has an intimacy coordinator on its team, suggesting the series could include sex scenes.

This listing has led to fans worrying that the Amazon series is taking inspiration from HBO’s “Game of Thrones” which became famous for its “sexposition” which showed graphic nudity (almost always female) whilst relaying important information about the show’s ongoing story.

However George R.R. Martin’s novels are famous for being a more lurid, dark and grounded fantasy world as opposed to Tolkien’s chaste, high-fantasy Middle-earth. Understandably social media reaction online has been swift and largely against the implication.

So far Amazon has not confirmed the report. The massive project resumed filming in New Zealand in September with J.A. Bayona helming the pilot episode.
