Are Learning Algorithms Really Essential for Becoming a Data Scientist?

[ad_1]

DATA SCIENCE: AT A BEGINNER LEVEL

The field of data is concerned with mining the sheer volume of data flowing into the organizations’ warehouses via effective and proper application of scientific and mathematical skills at the same time.

As a beginner in the field of data, you are advised to learn a specific set of skills, but at the same time following points need to be kept in mind while pursuing the career in the field of data science as a new entrant.

1. NEVER EVER FOCUS ON THEORETICAL CONCEPTS ONLY

Learning the theoretical concepts associated to data science is not an easy task, but at the same time, your effort will be of no use if you are unable to apply your theoretical knowledge to the real world problems. Hence it is always said that learning or grasping the theoretical concepts will not let you experience the way to deal with the complex business problems.

For example: Learning the regression theory can be implemented practically on a dataset using any programming language be it R, Python etc.

2. DON’T FOCUS TOO MUCH ON ALGORITHMS

At the beginner level, the algorithms are not required to be focused much. You can go through the algorithms such as linear regression or logistic regression. Just get a hold over these algorithms so as to be pretty good with the algorithms.

3. BUILDING PROJECTS ON DOMAINS YOU ARE NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE ARE NOT RECOMMENDED

Always build the projects on the domains that you are passionate about and are interested to deal in. After graduation, it is not advised to deal with the generic data science projects, although if you are an experienced professional then you can go for working on the projects which are generic to data science. Your knowledge will assist you in solving the problems associated with the domain you have chosen.

4. FOCUSING ON EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS IS MUST

The prime responsibility of a data scientist includes the task of communicating the valuable insights extracted from the sheer volume of data. The communication must be made in a clear and a concise way so that the decision makers can effectively and efficiently take the decisions for the complex business problems. It is concerned with communicating the technical and non-technical findings. Hence it is essential for a beginner to have a complete focus on his/her communication skills.

AFTER KEEPING IN MIND THE ABOVE MENTIONED SUGGESTIONS WHAT ALL A BEGINNER NEEDS TO LEARN IN THE FIELD OF DATA SCIENCE?

It is highly recommended that if one is planning to go for the career in the field of data science, then he/she needs to start understanding in detail the basic concepts related to statistics and statistical analysis. Then it is advised to have an in-depth knowledge of programming languages such as R, Python, SAS etc.

After this, learning a few algorithms is essential and then to analyze what all you have learned then for that working on the data science projects is the most important step that one has to undertake.

This way the beginner can pursue his/her career in the field of data science.

You need to go slow to go fast.
