Benefits of Distance Learning – Defying Challenges to Learn

[ad_1]

There are some of us who had the benefit of going to a college or university. That experience is something etched in unforgivable memories mostly of wild parties and social and personal relationships. Those who committed Greek remember the various rituals made during rush period and with fondness to remember their brothers or sisters for life, which makes a good topic of conversation during reunions and get together. Others also remember the valuable life lessons in dealing with others, and of the first step of independence after leaving one’s home. To those parents who had children going to college, it was their last link before their child left home for good. It was a rite of passage, a new phase in one’s life.

But not all of us had such a fortune to go to school and get their undergraduate degree. Financial constants had us go to work right away and learn to earn money. Some of us needed to help out with the family or had initially no inkling to get further education. A lot of us had to deal with the reality of life that we needed to work right away.

Those that could not get a degree but wanted to have the unique opportunity of now getting a degree through distance learning. The internet has enabled so many of us to earn a degree without being a full time student at rates that are affordable and there are even online colleges that offer financial aid if needed. The benefits of distance learning are various but the most important of which is that it enables a student to get a degree that otherwise might not be possible due to distance and time limitations. Colleges that may be far away and may demand time for classes and school work can now accept people who enroll in a distance education degree program, assigning them papers to read and report to, and may even meet with them online through chat programs or webcam conferences . This flexibility that distance learning offers is another advantage. One can set the time and schedule to do the reporting, or send email to the teacher.

Another important advantage for both the school and the student in distance learning is that distance learning opens up a new and larger market for the school, and offers a variety of degrees to the student. It is a win-win situation for both the school and the student to have such programs as more people are able to avail of such programs in order to get a degree, generating more revenue for the teacher and the school with the limited use of school resources like classes and the like. There are many other benefits to distance learning but the flexibility, variety, marketability and availability of such are the most important ones.
