Chelsea vs Villarreal

After despatching Arsenal and Manchester United on the way to Europa League glory last season, Unai Emery has the chance to topple another English giant as Villarreal face Champions League winners Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup.

The Yellow Submarine haven’t had the best preparation though, failing to win any of their six pre-season encounters, including a loss at Leicester and a draw at Leeds.

Chelsea are unbeaten in their own pre-season programme and also have the added incentive of trying to reverse a poor Super Cup record that has seen them lose this game three times since 2012.

We can’t see past the Blues here, and 8/11 is a more than acceptable acca addition.

However, with Thomas Tuchel’s men having conceded in each of their pre-season games, Chelsea to win and both teams to score is also a tempting option at 3/1.

Blackpool vs Middlesbrough

Both sides opened their Championship campaign with 1-1 draws away from home last time out, with the Tangerines scoring an injury-time equaliser at Bristol City and Neil Warnock’s men also coming from behind at Fulham.

It should be a close game at Bloomfield Road, with both teams to score sure to be a popular bet.

However, with the evergreen and ever-wily Warnock at the helm and a shade more quality in their ranks, we reckon a Boro win is the way to go here.

Burton Albion vs Oxford United

The hosts seem to enjoy playing in the League Cup, having advanced beyond the first round in each of the last nine seasons and memorably reaching the semi-finals in 2019.

After a 1-0 win at Shrewsbury on the opening day of the League One campaign, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s men will fancy their chances against Oxford United, who are favourites despite opening their League One season with a 1-1 draw at Cambridge.

However, with home advantage and a victory under their belts we can’t resist an acca-boosting Burton win.

Coventry vs Northampton Town

This one has the look of a home banker as Championship side Coventry take on League Two Northampton Town, and the Sky Blues will head into this clash in good spirits after a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest last time out.

The Cobblers opened their own campaign with a 1-0 victory over Port Vale, but should find the step up in class too much here, with Coventry to win to nil tempting at around 9/5.

We’re happy to err on the side of caution, though, and around 8/13 on the home victory is plenty for us.

Leyton Orient vs QPR

East plays West in an intriguing London derby at Brisbane Road, with the hosts sure to be up for it against their more illustrious opponents.

Kenny Jackett’s men have also started the season well, drawing 1-1 at a Salford side strongly fancied for promotion from League Two, and will have their supporters at a tasty 13/5.

Championship outfit QPR drew 1-1 at home to Millwall last time out, and if you include their four pre-season games they have yet to keep a clean sheet this season, so we’re all over the 8/11 on offer for both teams to score.

Nottingham Forest vs Bradford City

Chris Hughton’s men have the perfect opportunity to put that loss to Coventry immediately behind them when they host a Bradford side who slogged their way to a 0-0 draw at Exeter on the opening day of League Two.

Forest are 1/2 favourites to win in 90 minutes, but with a point to prove in front of their own fans we reckon they will also win to nil.
