Box-Office To Hit ‘Normal’ Levels In 2023?

AMC Theaters

In its most recent study, Gower Street Analytics is projecting that the global box office will reach $33.2 billion next year – a 58% increase over 2021 which is projected to end at around $21 billion.

The research film indicates the big gain next year will be the North American domestic box-office which they estimate will hit a projected $9.2 billion. That’s up from an estimated $4.4 billion it will reach by the end of this year, and would push North America past China (assuming that market’s figure stays flat) who had the world’s strongest box-office in 2020 and 2021.

Gower also suggests the industry won’t see a full return to pre-pandemic global box office levels of over $40 billion until at least 2023. It’s hoped widespread COVID shutdowns will not return, but that can’t be predicted.

2021 is going out on a high though with “Spider-Man: No Way Home” expected to snag a minimum global opening weekend of $290 million, while both “The Matrix Resurrections” and “Sing 2” are also expected to be strong earners.
