Ohio State’s Center for Foodborne Illness and Research and Prevention (CFI) is inviting the public and other interested individuals to a free webinar on Wednesday, Oct. 27, from noon to 1 p.m. EDT.

The webinar, titled, “Improve Food Safety Decisions Using Existing Data,” will focus on answering the question, “What is needed to effectively and efficiently use existing data to inform decision-making?”

The webinar will be moderated by assistant professor and Director of the Center for Foodborne Illness Research and Prevention Barbara Kowalcyk and will feature three expert panelists from academia, industry, and government. The panelists will share their perspectives and identify how to move food safety toward the goal of better information to make informed food safety decisions.

The Panelists:

  • Melody Ge — Vice President of Governance, Intelligence,  Analytics at Corvium; Founder of Women in Food Safety
  • Andrew Kennedy — New Era Technology team leader at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
  • Suzy Sawyer — Food, Safety, Quality and Regulatory Data Lead at Cargill

According to the CFI,  “vast amounts of data are collected throughout the food system — on the farm, in processing, during distribution, and at retail — but limited sharing makes it difficult to access this information for effective decision-making.”

Those interested in attending the webinar can register here.
