Chelsea star praises Liverpool standout Salah for ‘setting the bar’

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has praised Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah as he has been “setting the bar” in the Premier League this season.

Salah has proved to be a phenomenal signing for Liverpool. The ex-Chelsea man returned to the Premier League in 2017.

Liverpool paid a fee that could rise to £43m to sign the Eqyptian international. He has scored 147 goals from his 228 games for the Reds.

The Premier League Covid Resilience Metric: Who’s best placed to cope?

Salah has made a sensational start to the 2021/22 campaign. He has 22 goals and nine assists from his 25 appearances across all competitions.

The forward comes up against his former club on January 2 as Liverpool travel to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

As quoted by The Metro, Mount has suggested that Salah is a leading contender to win this year’s Premier League Player of the Season award:

“There’s a few, I think, that you can put out there, but I think the amount of goals he’s scoring, the assists he’s getting, I think Mo Salah would definitely be up there.

“He is a big, big player who turns up in the big games and scores big goals. He’s setting the bar very, very high and I think as a player you want to be able to do that. He’s setting the bar very very high at the moment.”

Elsewhere, Tony Cascarino has likened Salah to West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen:

“He had an amazing goal record at Hull City before West Ham bought him.

“It was something like 50-odd goals in 120 appearances. That’s not bad for someone who is not a natural centre forward.

“He’s direct and he’s a bit like Salah where he always seems to get a chance in a game and will run at people and play in different positions. He has great energy. He will help his full-back out all the time.

“He’s come on leaps and bounds and you have to give David Moyes credit for that. He’s stayed with him.

“[Said] Benrahma is more skilful, on the other side he’s got loads of tricks in his armoury. Bowen is more predictable but very effective. He will always outscore Benrahma.”
