Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) will be rendered speechless in Coronation Street next week when she learns that Johnny’s (Richard Hawley) death could’ve been prevented.

The landlady of the Rovers Return found herself trapped in the sewers underneath the eponymous street during tense scenes this week, after she fell into the sinkhole in the Platts’ garden.

Johnny, unwilling to wait for help, decided to descend into the pit and rescue her.

He ultimately succeeded, with a little help from Shona (Julia Goulding), who decided to risk her own life to save theirs.

Johnny, however, died.

Jenny struggles to come to terms with his death, and upcoming scenes will see her get drunk, and kick Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) out.

Carla Barlow (Alison King) calls around to have a word with Jenny, who apologises for getting so drunk, but it’s not just Carla that the landlady owes an apology to.

Daisy returns to the pub in this clip – taken from Wednesday’s (October 27) first of two editions of the ITV soap – and Jenny is quick to say sorry for what she did.

‘I know you’d never wish such a horrible accident on anyone,’ says Jenny, referring to Johnny’s untimely demise.

Daisy accepts Jenny’s apology, but she brings with her huge news, telling her stepmother that Johnny’s death was an ‘accident that could’ve been prevented.’

Jenny and Carla are confused, and thus Daisy fills in the blanks.

‘Gail, David and Shona’, she continues. ‘They all could’ve stopped it from happening.’

Jenny is stunned. Will she take action?

Coronation Street airs these scenes Wednesday October 27 at 7:30pm on ITV.
