Elliot Page has been praised by a leading LGBT charity for sharing his moments of gender euphoria with the world.

The actor, who came out as transgender in December, posted a photo of himself by the pool in sunglasses and red swimming trunks, beaming broadly.

Marking an important – and joyful – moment for himself, The Umbrella Academy star wrote: ‘Trans bb’s first swim trunks #transjoy #transisbeautiful.’

Elliot had previously opened up about the emotional turmoil he’d felt for years to Time, sharing details of the anxiety, panic attacks and depression he’d suffered with, and how he ‘could not even look at a photo of myself’ before transitioning.

Now, sharing this proud and positive milestone with the world has earned him praise from the charity Stonewall.

Kirrin Medcalf, Trans Community Engagement Lead at Stonewall described it as ‘fantastic’ to see Elliot Page ‘looking so comfortable and happy’ in the snap, in a statement to Metro.co.uk.

They continued: ‘Elliot Page has always been a role model to a huge number of people, and it is wonderful that he can share his trans joy with the world.

‘Seeing moments of gender euphoria also highlights how important it is for all trans people to be able to access appropriate and timely gender affirming healthcare.’

Kirrin also affirmed how the charity would ‘keep fighting’ for the rights of trans people, saying: ‘At Stonewall, we will keep fighting for every trans person to be able to be themselves and access the healthcare that they need, when they need it.’

Elliot has also celebrated his fans’ love and support as ‘the greatest gift’, as well as sharing the inspiration he found in the trans community.

When he first shared his news with the world, Elliot wrote: ‘I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.’
