Ferdinand picks out major ‘issue’ with one Man Utd star

Rio Ferdinand thinks the body language of Marcus Rashford “is an issue” for Man Utd after they lost 1-0 to Wolves on Monday night.

Joao Moutinho fired Wolves to a first win at Old Trafford since 1980 as Ralf Rangnick’s unbeaten start to life as United’s interim manager came to an end.

Wolves managed 15 shots in a one-sided first half and continued to threaten after the break, with Moutinho striking late on to seal a notable victory.

Gary Neville had talked about the Man Utd players’ body language being poor in recent matches and it was again evident against Bruno Lage’s side on Monday.

And Ferdinand picked out Rashford – who has only contributed three goals in 14 appearances this season in all competitions – for having particularly poor body langauage when he came off the bench.

“Body language is an issue,” Ferdinand told Vibe With Five. “Marcus Rashford comes off the bench and you are expecting him to go out there and really fly and give it some.

“And sometimes you see him losing the ball and the reaction to losing the ball isn’t what you want to see sometimes. That could be down to him not being happy not playing etc. But you’ve got to put that to one side.

“When you’re out of the team it’s about coming in and proving to the manager what you’re about and who you are. Maybe he feels he is not getting the opportunities he deserves. I don’t know.

“It’s hard to pinpoint one player – you can’t, all the players have to take responsibility from Cristiano at the top all the way down to all the other players.”

When asked if adjusting to Rangnick was part of the reason for the poor display, Man Utd left-back Luke Shaw told Sky Sports after the match: “I’m not sure. I don’t think you can put it on that.

“Look, us players, we’ve been here for a long time. We’ve played at home, we know what it’s like when we have the intensity, you can feel the motivation is there.

“But I think maybe tonight we struggled. I didn’t feel when I was on the pitch that we were all there together. We felt like we were struggling and it was tough.”
