First Trailer: Robert Zemeckis’ “The Witches”

Hot on the heels of the announcement of its skipping cinemas and going to HBO Max, Warner Bros. Pictures has now released the first trailer for the highly anticipated film adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic “The Witches”.

This new adaptation shifts the setting to 1960s Alabama and follows a young boy (Jahzir Bruno) and his grandmother (Octavia Spencer) as they encounter a coven of witches while on vacation.

They must subsequently team up to stop the witches from enacting their evil plan of turning all children into mice, which is complicated by the fact that the young boy himself gets turned into a mouse.

Anne Hathaway plays the Grand High Witch, Stanley Tucci is Mr. Stringer and Chris Rock is the narrator for this take which plays much more like a clean family film than Nicolas Roeg’s decidedly darker 1990 cult classic starring Anjelica Houston.

Kristen Chenoweth also stars in the film which arrives October 22nd.
