General Hospital fans have called for the ABC soap to give a bigger storyline to Dr. Terry Randolph as the network marked #TransDayofVisibility.
The character is played by trans actress Cassandra James, who made a statement about her role in a post shared on the official GH Twitter page.
She said: ‘I continue to be deeply honored by #GeneralHospital and @ABCNetwork ‘s commitment to telling trans stories. Our visibility matters now, more than ever.” – @cassandrajames_ #TransDayOfVisibility #GH.’
Another post from the official account read: ‘Dr. Terry Randolph stands as a beacon of hope in Port Charles and, on this #TransDayOfVisibility, the entire cast and crew of #GH is honored to call @cassandrajames_ a member of our family.’
Dr. Terry became the first transgender character played by a transperson on daytime soap when Cassandra landed the role in 2018, joining the program in July that year.
The character is an oncologist who has been lifelong friends with one of the show’s longest-running characters, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst).
Fans were quick to praise the actress for her work so far on the show, while others pleaded for Dr. Terry to feature in bigger storylines going forward.
One wrote: ‘I absolutely love her! She’s a fantastic actress, a wonderful character she adds to the storylines she’s in and I hope she’s given more screen time in the future. Thank you for giving the trans community representation on #GH’.
Another viewer added: ‘I want to see the writers give her a story. She’s got the acting chops. Everyone likes this character. Instead all she does is dole out bad news as the resident oncologist. She is amazing and deserves it!’
One fan commented: ‘Have been watching GH since october and I think I can count on one hand how many times I’ve seen her. Would like to know more about her. A story would be great.’
Another added: ‘Not a regular GH viewer but I’m so glad to see this representation exists on your show! Though in addition to what everyone else is saying give her a story and meaningful screentime. Simply owning representation is easy, making the most of it is what the goal should be.’
One fan wrote: ‘I’d love to see a story about her journey. Maybe seeing family or something. I’m glad she’s on but we really have no sense of her connection besides Liz. Let’s hear:see HER story.’
Another commented: ‘I would love to see her with an actual storyline. Hopefully that is in the works. Crossed fingers #PleaseAndThankyou #GH #RepresentationMatters.’
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
