“Godzilla vs. Kong” Hits $390M Globally

Legendary’s MonsterVerse feature continues going strong, hitting $390.2 million this weekend and becoming the top-grossing Hollywood movie of the pandemic, surpassing the $365 million of “Tenet”.

The film stayed atop the weekend charts with $7.7 million domestically in its third outing to hit $80.5 million through Sunday. Overseas, it took in $12.2 million for a foreign total of $309.7 million.

Godzilla vs. Kong’s foreign showing is led by China, where it has earned $177 million to date – the best showing of any title in Legendary’s MonsterVerse series, not adjusted for inflation. Australia is the next best with $19.1 million.

Many parts of Europe are still battling the COVID-19 crisis and are under lockdown with the hope those markets will be open within the next two months. As of now, 56% of North American theaters are now reopened.
