HBO & HBO Max Pass 41M Subscribers

HBO and HBO Max have seen their combined U.S. subscribers count reportedly jump to more than 41 million.

That’s a full two years faster than the company’s initial forecast according to AT&T CEO John Stankey as he discussed the service’s performance over the fourth quarter of 2020 this week.

The jump in numbers was helped by the premiere of “Wonder Woman 1984” on the service, buzzy shows like “The Flight Attendant” and “The Undoing,” and WarnerMedia finally reaching distribution deals with Amazon and Roku to get the service on their media players.

WarnerMedia will release their entire 2021 film slate simultaneously in cinemas and on HBO Max (for limited periods), and a new promo for that initiative today shows off some more footage from the films participating.

WarnerMedia is planning to launch an advertising-supported version of HBO Max later this year with the company aiming to reach 50-55 million customers in the U.S. by 2025. At present, HBO and HBO Max combined have 61 million subscribers worldwide, though ‘Max’ has yet to launch outside the United States.
