“Heat” Novel Sequel Set For August

Warner Bros. Pictures

The novel “Heat 2,” a literary sequel to Michael Mann’s acclaimed 1995 crime opus, has set an August 9th launch date in book stores.

Mann and Edgar-winner Meg Gardiner penned the book which follows an original story about the lives of key characters from the movie both before and after the events depicted in it.

The novel begins one day later with a wounded Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer) desperate to escape LA before jumping to both six years prior to the heist and the years in the wake of it.

The earlier events will look at Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) and his time in Chicago as a cop along with a failing earlier marriage along with glimpses of the earlier lives of McCauley (Robert De Niro), Kilmer’s Shiherlis, Charlene (Ashley Judd), Nate (Jon Voight), Trejo (Danny Trejo) and Kelso (Tom Noonan).

Locations range from the familiar streets of L.A. to a cartel money-laundering operation in Mexico, to a Taiwanese crime syndicate residing in a South American free trade zone.

The book represents the first novel from Michael Mann Books which signed a multi-million dollar deal with HarperCollins imprint William Morrow.
