Karlie Kloss called out her in-laws Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump on Twitter following the Capitol riots.

The model is married to businessman Joshua Kushner, the brother of President Donald Trump’s senior advisor Jared, who is also married to Trump’s daughter Ivanka.

Being a Democrat who voted for Joe Biden in the presidential election, Karlie’s political views have always been at odds with her famous family, although she has rarely publicly and directly disavowed her in-laws’ political beliefs.

However, following last night’s shocking scenes in Washington DC, the 28-year-old claimed she had ‘tried’ to talk politics with Ivanka and Jared.

Karlie, who is expecting her first child with Joshua, addressed the riots on Twitter, writing: ‘Accepting the results of a legitimate democratic election is patriotic. Refusing to do so and inciting violence is anti-American.’

While many praised the star’s words, others wanted more, with replies urging her to speak to the Kushners next time she has dinner with them.

One reply read: ‘Tell your sister in law and brother [in] law’ – with Karlie responding: ‘I’ve tried.’

This wasn’t enough for many, though, as unimpressed followers replied: ‘Try harder.’

The former Victoria’s Secret Angel married Joshua in 2018, and told Vogue that she and her husband ‘share a lot of the same liberal values that guide our lives and the things we stand for’.

However, she has been criticised for her links to the Trump family, and was famously called out on Project Runway – which she hosts – last year by contestant Tyler Neasloney.

After a judge told Tyler that he couldn’t see Karlie wearing the dress he made ‘anywhere’, the designer responded: ‘Not even to dinner with the Kushners?’

Speaking on Diane von Fürstenberg’s podcast InCharge with DVF, Karlie acknowledged the vast political differences between her and her in-laws, saying: ‘I really followed my heart on choosing to be with the person that I love, despite any complications that came with it.

‘I knew for me, it was worth it to fight for that.’

While Joshua has stated he is a ‘life-long Democrat’ and has donated to Democratic campaigns, as well as supporting the March for our Lives, he is still close with his brother, and he and Karlie have just purchased a home in Miami which is a 10-minute drive from Ivanka and Jared’s new two-acre lot on Indian Creek island.

After Trump supporters breached the Capitol building in an attempt to stop the confirmation of Joe Biden’s presidency, First Daughter Ivanka urged the rioters to ‘stay peaceful’, but deleted the tweet after she was criticised for calling the mob ‘American patriots’.

The 39-year-old, who is an advisor to her father, tweeted: ‘American patriots – any security breach or disrespect to our law enforcement is unacceptable. The violence must stop immediately. Please be peaceful.’

She did not ask the rioters to go home.

When questioned about her use of the term patriots’, Ivanka tweeted: ‘Peaceful protest is patriotic. Violence is unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest terms.’

Four people died at the riots last night, including one woman who was shot dead, and there have been calls for Trump to be impeached following the chaos.
