Wouldn’t you agree that through the daily struggles of parenting we are constantly learning lessons about life, children and ourselves? I bet most would also agree that some of these daily struggles are painful and humbling too, huh? As parents, we all speak a common language and wear a common countenance of stress and anxiety, peppered by the wisdom of hard-fought battles and lessons learned.

My wife and I have five children and as you probably already know every one of them is different. I know this may sound a bit trite, but every parent knows this about their own children. We parents also know that there is no shortcut to raising kids. Just because we made it through the teen years of our first child, it doesn’t mean that the next one will be any easier.

We should already know what to do after the first one, right? We’d like to think that we know what to do, but the bottom line is that we don’t. The next one in line changes the rules of the game and then doesn’t even tell us what the rules are. They just expect us parents to figure it out on our own. When we finally do catch on to the game that they are playing they go ahead and move into the next stage of their growth and development and the rules change once again.

Now my wife and I, like many parents, have moved into some foreign territory with electronics. They didn’t have these things when we were kids so now we are stumbling through these decisions. The bottom line is that parenting is not easy but it surely is worth it. And I’m sure that parents everywhere would agree with me.

Now, as my Granddaddy always said, “Go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us.” Remember that when we stumble, which will be often, let’s not get too frustrated because parenting is a never-ending learning experience. And once again parents, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do…
