We could all do with a bit of good news, especially if it comes in the form of a tasty treat.
So let’s celebrate this: A Vegan KitKat is coming.
Nestle has announced that soon it will be selling a plant-based version of their classic chocolate, that will ‘deliver the perfect balance between crispy wafer and smooth chocolate that people know and love’.
It’s not clear exactly how the KitKat V will be made, but Nestle has previously launched plant-based alternatives to dairy products using rice, oats, soy, and pea protein – so it’s likely these ingredients will appear in this new offering.
We don’t know when the KitKat V will arrive in stores or where exactly it’ll be sold, as so far Nestle has simply said that the new product will launch in ‘several countries across the globe’ at some point in 2021.
The good news is that it definitely will be available in the UK, as the research on the vegan KitKat was done in York – so it’d be rude to leave Brits out.
You might not spot the KitKat V in your corner shop any time soon, though, as it’s likely that the product will initially roll out through Nestle’s boutique KitKat Chocolatory stores.
Alexander von Maillot, who is Head of Confectionery at Nestlé, said: ‘One of the most common requests we see on social media is for a vegan KitKat, so we’re delighted to be able to make that wish come true.
‘I can’t wait for people to be able to try this amazingly tasty new KitKat. This is a product for everyone who wants a little more plant-based in their life!’
Now all we need is a vegan KitKat Chunky, and we’re sorted.
