The Theragun has made a name for itself as a top-of-the-line recovery device that both professional athletes and everyday athletes (that’s you and me) swear by to loosen up tight muscles and soothe sore ones. If you’re not already up to speed on the Theragun hype, here’s what you need to know: A Theragun is a massage device that uses percussive massage therapy, a form of soft tissue manipulation (massage) that uses a very rapid hammering motion instead of just vibration, as SELF has previously reported. You use it the same way you would use a foam roller or ball to roll out a tight or sore muscle, except it’s got some real power behind it. The force, combined with the interchangeable massage heads (of different sizes and shapes) on the end of the device, make it more effective at targeting many muscles and soft tissues that may be hard to reach with something larger like a foam roller.
