Sins Are Like Garbage in Our Soul

[ad_1]

Most Catholics do not go to confession often enough. Many Catholics go to confession about once a year on average. Some do not go often at all. It could be many years since they went to confession and they tend to forget about going and find it far easier to just carry on as usual.

The problem with this lackadaisical attitude is that the person will stop paying attention to the sins s (he) is committing and will just act unconsciously. One thing that setting dates ahead of time to go to confession does is make us more conscious of our actions every day and when you have gone wrong. Then you can go to confession and be reconciled with God again. What a true gift and an honor.

However, most of us forgo this honor. We carry our sins and they fester like stinky garbage in our soul. Some of us are not even aware that we have done anything wrong. We just act without thinking and without remorse.

Occidentally, we may even experience guilt or remorse. But even that is short-lived if we do not go to confession often. Most Catholics who do not go to confession regularly do not feel that they are doing anything wrong, even though they are hurting God repeatedly, and they have turned their lives into a trash can.

But there is a way out of this mess. We can regain our lives with God and become what God wants us to be-obedient and living lives as children of God.

Here are a few steps that you can take to ensure that you get back on track with God.

1. Go to confession. Try and go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation at least 2 to 4 times a year. I love to go to confession once a season. This gives Catholics a good practice where they can become more aware of their wrong actions.

2. Set specific times you plan to go to confession in your yearly planner ahead of time. Then when the time comes, set a more specific date and make plans to go to confession.

3. If you have not gone to confession for years, it may be necessary to seek the spiritual direction of a priest. This will give you an opportunity to discuss any difficulties that you have with your life and get your life back on track.

4. Become more aware of your actions. You may want to journal every evening about how your day went. During that time, do a brief examination of conscience. Ask yourself if you sinned at all during the day. Did you hurt anyone? Did you gossip? Did you belittle or put down people who are less fortunate? Did you help a person in need? Then write down your answers to these questions.

By taking these steps, you will become increasingly Godly and develop frequent opportunities to confess your sins. You will also become more aware of your actions daily. Journaling will make it easier for you to be aware of your sins so that you could confess all your sins.

None of us deserve to be carrying a lot of spiritual garbage in our souls. It festers and turns our life into something that is not praiseworthy or honourable to God. In addition, we will start hating ourselves in the process. So, take steps to feel more liberated from all your sins. Go to confession!
