Netflix

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” second unit director Victoria Mahoney has been tapped to direct “The Old Guard” sequel at Netflix and Skydance.

Mahoney takes over from Gina Prince-Bythewood who directed the first film based on the comic by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez. Prince-Bythewood opted not to return to focus on other projects, but will remain as a producer.

Charlize Theron is set to return along with cast members KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The new film is being written by Rucka who will adapt the second story arc of his comic about a group of immortal warriors who meet a new one of their kind even as repercussions from their centuries-old way of life catches up with them in the modern age.

Theron, Beth Kono, Marc Evans, AJ Dix, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will also produce. The original remains one of Netflix’s biggest original film hits.
