Let’s Be Real
FOX has ordered the satirical special “Let’s Be Real” which will air October 1st and cover politics, pop culture and the 2020 election through puppets, celebrity cameos and remote pieces. The project hails from “Triumph the Insult Comic Dog””creator and renowned puppeteer Robert Smigel who serves as writer and executive producer. Ben Silverman, Howard Owens and Kevin Healy are executive producers. [Source: Variety]
United We Fall
ABC has cancelled its multicamera family comedy “United We Fall” after one season. The series, a co-production between Sony Pictures TV and ABC Studios, wrapped its eight-episode run in August with just three million Live + Same Day viewers. Burn the Place
Annapurna has optioned the rights to Iliana Regan’s novel “Burn The Place,” dubbed the “definitive Midwest drunken-lesbian food memoir,” with plans to develop it as a series. The title was the first food book to be long-listed for the National Book Award since Julia Child in 1980.
The book Regan’s story of becoming a self-taught Midwestern Michelin-starred chef, amid a fight for sobriety, restaurant ownership, and her queer identity in the world of Chicago’s male dominated kitchen hierarchies. Ultimately she retires to the woods of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to open a bed and breakfast. [Source: Deadline]
Blindspotting
Starz has officially ordered the “Blindspotting” spin-off to series with the half-hour dramedy centering on Jasmine Cephas Jones’ Ashley character. She was headed for a middle class life in Oakland until her psrtner Miles (Rafael Casal) is suddenly incarcerated and forcing her to move in with Miles’ mother and half-sister.
Original film stars Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal will also write and executive produce the series. Casal will serve as showrunner in addition to playing the recurring role of Miles. Jones will serve as producer in addition to starring. Jess Wu Calder and Keith Calder will also executive produce. [Source: Starz]
Moonbase 8
Just days after the teaser trailer was released, the official full trailer for the A24-produced comedy series “Moonbase 8” has arrived along with the announcement of a November 8th premiere date on Showtime. John C. Reilly, Fred Armisen, and Tim Heidecker star as a trio of B-team astronauts living on a base out in the Arizona desert. Jonathan Krisel serves as series co-creator, producer, and writer.
