Sony’s Uncharted movie opened this weekend, and it did very big business at the box office, becoming the fourth-biggest opening of all time for a video game movie.
Uncharted is projected to make $44 million for the Friday-Sunday period and $51 million for the four-day Presidents Day long weekend. It’s the fourth-biggest opening for a movie based on a video game in the US, trailing Tomb Raider ($47 million), Detective Pikachu ($54 million), and Sonic the Hedgehog ($58 million).
BOX OFFICE: The big story? Two films over-performed on the same weekend for the first time in a good while:
– #Uncharted grabs the 4th biggest 3-day opening ever for a video game adaptation w/ $44M & $51M for the 4-day.
-#Dog scored $15M & $18M for the 4-day.

The Uncharted movie didn’t exactly wow professional critics, but it’s performing far better with fans, at least based on scores posted on Rotten Tomatoes. The strong positive reaction from fans suggests that box office numbers might continue to be strong as the film heads into its second and third weekends.
Uncharted is also scoring much stronger with audiences than it did with critics reviews
Currently the movie is at a 90% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes and also is scoring well with other trackers. Legs should be good on this one pic.twitter.com/fLjStfm0Vy— Benji-Sales (@BenjiSales) February 20, 2022
Uncharted’s director, Ruben Fleischer, has ideas for a sequel, which could involve Uncharted 4’s epic car chase scene. Additionally, Fleischer wants to make a Jak and Daxter movie.
Here at GameSpot, our Uncharted review scored the movie a 7/10. Reviewer Phil Hornshaw said, “Uncharted is a lot of fun a lot of the time. It might not do much that the games haven’t already, but fans will enjoy a new Uncharted tale that at least brings its own flashy, death-defying treasure hunt into the fold.”
