A deputy US marshal allegedly solicited men on Craigslist to rape his then-wife in a plot the couple had to blame his ex-girlfriend. Ian Diaz, 43, was arrested on Thursday in connection with the plot from 2015 that he and his wife are accused of engineering.

Ian and his now ex-wife Angela Diaz devised a plan to lure Craigslist users into thinking they could participate in a ‘rape fantasy’ organized by Ian’s then-girlfriend Michelle Hadley. In reality, the Diazes were the ones behind the plan and were trying to get Hadley busted for their crime.

‘It was a purpose of the conspiracy to engage in a cyberstalking campaign to harass and intimidate (Hadley) by framing her for criminal conduct that she did not commit,’ states a federal indictment obtained by Law & Crime.

The indictment further alleges that the Diazes formed the conspiracy to interfere with Hadley’s supposed interest in a condominium that she and Ian shared in 2015. Hadley and Ian separated but fought over property they shared legally.

Court papers state that the Diazes created and used several online accounts with different names linked to Hadley. The couple ‘posed as’ Hadley and ‘sent to themselves harassing and threatening electronic communications’ including ‘implied threats,’ federal prosecutors wrote.

The Diazes even ‘staged one or more hoax sexual assaults and hoax attempted sexual assaults’ on Angela, according to the indictment. The couple called 911 and falsely told law enforcement officials that Hadley was the culprit and ‘posed a genuine and serious threat’ to their safety, it states.

‘At what point does this girl get arrested for sending this shit and hiring guys off Craigslist to rape’ Angela, Ian allegedly told authorities in June 2016.

Hadley was incarcerated for three months before she was able to clear her name and get released in 2017.

Meanwhile, Angela in 2017 was charged with multiple state crimes and spent five years behind bars. Ian was arrested and charged with one count each of perjury, cyberstalking and conspiracy to commit cyberstalking. He faces up to five years in prison.

‘My family and I have waited a long time for justice, and this has brought us a lot of peace after years of fighting,’ Hadley said in a statement on Ian’s arrest and indictment.
