“Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?” Series Trailer

BritBox

Streaming service BritBox has premiered the official trailer for their upcoming all-star limited series adaptation of Agatha Christie’s famed novel “Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?”.

Written, directed and produced by the one and only Hugh Laurie, the former “House” and “Blackadder” actor also stars in the series alongside Will Poulter and Lucy Boynton as the leads along with Emma Thompson, Jim Broadbent, Conleth Hill, Amy Nuttall, Alistair Petrie, Morwenna Banks, Joshua James, Maeve Dermody, Daniel Ings, and Jonathan Jules.

The three-episode series follows the local Vicar’s son Bobby Jones (Poulter), and his whip-smart friend and socialite Lady Frances ‘Frankie’ Derwent (Boynton) who discover the crumpled body of a dying man who, with his last breath, gasps the titular question.

Armed only with a photograph of a young woman found in the dead man’s pocket, these amateur detectives pursue, and are pursued by, the answer to the mystery.

The property was previously adapted into a 1980 three-hour telemovie event starring Francesca Annis and James Warwick in the lead roles, the pair of actors later going on to play Christie’s married sleuths Tommy and Tuppence in their own episodic series “Partners in Crime”.

That version of ‘Evans’ was such a hit it spawned the subsequent Christie TV adaptations in the 1980s including the Joan Hickson-led “Miss Marple,” the David Suchet-led “Poirot” and event mini-series like “The Seven Dials Mystery”.

The new “Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?” premieres on BritBox on April 12th.
