So many times I have heard my friends telling me that by skipping breakfast they are hoping to lose some weight. But one of the biggest mistakes you can make is to skip breakfast, because after a good night sleep of 7 to 9 hours your body will run empty on fuel. Eating a healthy breakfast every morning is the match that lights the fire to help you start your day.

The consumption of a healthy breakfast increases your metabolism and kick starts your body into gear. When you skip a meal, especially a very important one such as a breakfast, your body will not process your next meal as fast as it should; it will try to hold on to it. Your body will use the stored energy to perform, and will tell your system to store more fat in your cells.

Skipping breakfast will also increase the chance for diseases, such as diabetes, heart attack and obesity. Studies also have shown that people who skip breakfast are basically heavier than those who enjoy a daily nutritious breakfast.

Eating breakfast is actually good for weight loss and to maintain a healthy body weight because it reduces the hunger for the rest of the day. It will help you to avoid overeating and to make the right food choices for the rest of the day.

A healthy breakfast should include protein such as low fat meat, eggs, dairy or beans and fibers such as whole grain, fruits and vegetables. Example of a healthy breakfast: a boiled egg, an orange or an apple with a slice of whole grain bread and a glass of low fat milk.

I have also heard many other excuses why people are not eating breakfast at all: “I am just not hungry… ” “In my morning rush I just don’t have the time for it…” “Coffee is my breakfast… “

Stop with those excuses and treat your body right!

All of your body’s organs, including your brain, need energy to function properly. So don’t make a mistake and skip breakfast or any other important meal of the day.

For those of you who believe that by skipping breakfast you will lose weight, actually in the long term you may gain weight because your metabolism will slow down and your body will burn less fat.

You do want to look great and have a healthy body right? So take good care of it with nutritious food, especially in the morning.
