Bill Condon To Direct Guys And Dolls

Oscar-winning filmmaker Bill Condon (“Gods and Monsters,” “Kinsey,” “The Fifth Estate”) has been set to direct a new film adaptation of the legendary Tony award-winning stage musical “Guys And Dolls” for TriStar Pictures.

In 2019, TriStar picked up the remake rights to the previous 1955 film adaptation starring Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra, the rights to 1950 Broadway musical with its book and music, and the remake rights to the original Damon Runyon short stories that inspired the shows.

Condon had been weighing several projects with this becoming the choice following a meeting at the studio who is very keen to get the project going. John Goldwyn and Marc Toberoff are producing.

Various attempts at a new film adaptation have taken place over the years with Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt linked to a version at 20th Century Fox at one point until the Disney merger scuttled that. In interviews, Vin Diesel has expressed a strong desire to star in a “Guys and Dolls” movie for over a decade.

Condon’s track record with musicals is one of the best in modern Hollywood. He wrote Best Picture winner “Chicago” and co-wrote the global smash hit “The Greatest Showman,” while he directed the “Dreamgirls” movie and Disney’s successful live-action “Beauty and the Beast”. He last directed the McKellen-Mirren 2019 thriller “The Good Liar”.
