“Fantastic Beasts” and “Green Room” actor Callum Turner has scored a major role in filmmaker George Clooney’s next directorial effort “The Boys in the Boat” at MGM and Smokehouse Pictures.

Based on Daniel James Brown’s 2013 novel, the triumphant underdog story follows the University of Washington men’s rowing team who stunned the world by winning gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

Mark L. Smith adapted the screenplay with Chris Weitz penning a previous draft. Clooney will co-direct with his regular producing partner Grant Heslov.

Tuener was recently handpicked to star in the Cary Fukunaga-directed and Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg produced “Masters of the Air” series for Apple TV+.

Clooney most recently helmed “The Tender Bar” which gets a limited release at Christmas.
