Carpenter Blumhouse Consider Thing Reboot

Following their collaboration on 2018’s “Halloween” revival, Blumhouse Productions and filmmaker John Carpenter are re-teaming again – this time on a reboot of his iconic 1982 icy horror classic “The Thing”.

The original feature follows an Antarctic research team contending with a parasitic alien life form that can imitate other people.

The reboot is reportedly still in early stages, and no other details have been hammered out. Carpenter first revealed the news on Saturday on a panel for the Fantasia International Film Festival.

Carpenter was discussing finishing the score to “Halloween Kills” due out next year, that project produced by Blumhouse and directed by David Gorden Green. He was then asked if he had talked with Blumhouse gead Jason Blum about directing any projects himself. He answered:

“I have? I don’t know about that. But we’ve talked about – I think he’s going to be working on ‘The Thing,’ rebooting ‘The Thing.’ I’m involved with that, maybe. Down the road.”

Carpenter declined to reveal the nature of the project be it a remake of Carpenter’s film (itself a remake of the 1951 film “The Thing from Another World”), another prequel like the 2011 Universal film which had no creative involvement from Carpenter and was poorly received, or a more logical sequel set years after the events of Carpenter’s film.
