“Eternals” Pre-Sales Beating “Shang-Chi,” “Widow”

Advanced domestic ticket sales for Disney and Marvel Studios’ “Eternals” racked up approximately $2.6 million in their first 24 hours.

That’s +86% ahead of “Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings” ($1.4M) and +30% ahead of “Black Widow” ($2M) over the same period of time. For AMC, the film reportedly had their largest day one sales so far this year.

The news comes as something of a relief for exhibitors as “Eternals” is one of Marvel’s more unconventional films and so how the fanbase would respond wasn’t clear. The diverse cast and naturalistic style of the film’s director Chloe Zhao though are being seen as draws, especially in the global market.

The concern is unwarranted though as Marvel works are proving one of the only properties that are still performing well at an otherwise still depressed box-office. Earlier this year “Black Widow” opened to $80.3 million and “Shang-Chi” to $75.3 million while the Sony-produced Marvel title “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” hit with a $90 million opening weekend.

“Eternals” will have its Hollywood world premiere this coming Monday and opens exclusively in cinemas on November 5th.
