“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Wraps Shoot

Paramount+

Actor Anson Mount has confirmed via a video posting that filming has finally been completed on the first season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” which was first announced back in May last year.

The series marks a return of old school ‘Trek’ with standalone episodes and a more optimistic tone as it follows the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise under the command of Captain Christopher Pike (Mount) in the years before Captain Kirk took over.

The show began pre-production that August and then filming began in late February in Ontario with the principal production for the season concluding on July 24th. A block of additional fiming was then scheduled and it appears that has now finished.

Along with its main sets, the series is using Mandalorian-style StageCraft technology with a 270-degree 70ft x 30 ft (21m x 9m) horseshoe-shaped LED volume set powered by Unreal Engine to create the planets that are visited in the series. Filming also took place in New Mexico.

The series cast also includes Rebecca Romijn as Number One, Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock, Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas, Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga, and Bruce Horak as Hemmer.

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” is expected to premiere exclusively on Paramount+ around mid-2022.
