Hbo Max Planning Non Us Dc Projects

How does a Korean Superman, a Sudanese Flash, or an Australian Batman sound?

HBO Max CCO Casey Bloys says the company is exploring what DC Comics-based content from its library of genre titles it could make available to be entirely adapted by a non-American country – something that hasn’t happened to date.

Speaking at the virtual Web Summit conference, Bloys indicates this will build upon both existing DC Universe originals such as “Doom Patrol” and “Titans” along with the upcoming Max Original “Peacemaker” which serves as a spin-off of James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad”.

Bloys explains the reasoning is all about integrating more international fare into HBO Max’s line-up combined with the service’s inevitable expansion into global territories:

“One of the big themes of bringing HBO Max together was breaking down the silos between HBO, Warner Bros and TBS and TNT. I’d say one other silo was international. One of the things that we’re going to do with Max is that all of our international productions will eventually live on Max and we’re going to do a much better job of co-ordinating between all of the folks programming in Europe, Latin America and Asia so if there’s anything that we’re developing that has real cross-border appeal, we’ll be able to highlight that.

HBO has already been producing original series in Europe, Latin America and Asia for years including “Wasteland,” “The Pact,” and “The Teenage Psychic” while the success of series like “Dark” and “Elite” on Netflix have demonstrated a large appetite for non-English and non-American scripted fare across the world – including the United States itself.

Head of HBO Max Global Andy Forssell has revealed it will start rolling out the HBO Max service in Europe next year along with a mid-year launch in Latin America and upgrading some of the existing direct to consumer HBO services in other countries with the plan to ultimately be available in 190 countries.
