Hopkins Set For “Son,” “Armageddon”

Sony Pictures Classics

Anthony Hopkins has officially been announced as re-teaming with his “The Father” director Florian Zeller for the latter’s second film “The Son”.

Hopkins won the Oscar for Best Actor for his work in “The Father” and this serves as something of a thematic sequel rather than a direct one with Hopkins playing a different character and the story following a different family.

Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern, Vanessa Kirby, and Zen McGrath also star in the movie with McGrath in the title role. The story deals with Jackman and Kirby as a couple whose life with their new baby is thrown into disarray when his ex-wife (Dern) turns up with their teenage son (McGrath).

“The Son” was filmed on location in New York, France, and London and recently wrapped filming ahead of a release next year.

That’s not the only Hopkins casting news today though as the actor will also join “The Lost City of Z” and “Ad Astra” writer/director James Gray’s new film “Armageddon Time” at Focus Features.

Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong, Banks Repeta, Jaylin Webb, and Ryan Sell are also onboard the film which is currently in production in New York. The coming of age film is inspired by Gray’s life in a pre-Reagan America and is set in Queens.
